A big part of our complete cycling trip, we cycled on the now completely paved Stuart Highway (often also referred to simply as The Track). The Stuart Highway is a highway running south to north through the middle of Australia, connecting Port Augusta (South Australia) with Darwin (Northern Territory), via Alice Springs.
We cycled on the Stuart Highway from Marla to Erldunda, and from Alice Springs to Darwin.
There is petrol and other facilities (meals, toilets etc) available at long intervals (usually around 200 km) and more frequent rest stops. Some of the rest stops are located at scenic points with information boards, but others are little more than a pinic table and a rubbish bin in the middle of nowhere. So make sure you have enough drinking water to get to the next town with facilities.
